Olive oil’s health benefits

The greatest exponent of monounsaturated fat is olive oil, and it is a prime component of the Mediterranean Diet. Olive oil is a natural juice which preserves the taste, aroma, vitamins and properties of the olive fruit. Olive oil is the only vegetable oil that can be consumed as it is – freshly pressed from the fruit. Olive oil is very well tolerated by the stomach. In fact, olive oil’s protective function has a beneficial effect on ulcers and gastritis. Olive oil activates the secretion of bile and pancreatic hormones much more naturally than prescribed drugs. Consequently, it lowers the incidence of gallstone formation.

Pakistan: Rs642 million investment/5 years in Olive cultivation plan approved

NWFP Governor Lt-Gen (rtd) Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai approved a five year comprehensive plan for olive cultivation in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) by giving a go ahead signal to the authorities of civil secretariat Fata during a presentation on the proposed project at Governor’s House here on Tuesday.

Olive Oil has many uses

I hope I ‘m not the only one, but before moving to the main olive growing area of Spain I thought that black olives and green olives were different varieties. But they’re not.

My nearest town, Martos, is the olive growing capital of Spain. In the 50 km surrounding Martos they harvest the majority of the production for Jaen province, the most important olive growing and olive oil production area in Spain.

So after living here for ten years I now know the difference. The fruit start out green then when they’ve grown to full size they start to ripen. They change from green to purple then black. That’s when the oil comes into the fruit and they’re ready to harvest.

Sétif, Algérie: La production oléicole en baisse

La localité de Beni Ourtilane a abrité, le week-end dernier, la troisième édition du Festival de l’olive dans une conjoncture marquée par une faible production nationale qui, tout en pénalisant plusieurs économies locales, plaide pour la recherche de nouvelles perspectives.
