Changlot Real Olives

L’olive à huile allongée de Valence — une huile fruitée, aromatique et légèrement amère.

The Changlot Real is a distinctive Valencian oil olive of Spain’s eastern coast, recognisable by its elongated fruit borne in long clusters (the name nods to the bunch, changlot). Productive and adaptable, it gives a fruity, aromatic oil with a fresh green character and moderate bitterness — another of the regional Spanish varieties that round out the Levant coast’s oils.

The cluster olive of Valencia

The Changlot Real is one of the eastern coast’s characterful oil olives — its long, elongated fruit hangs in generous clusters, and it bears reliably. The oil is fruity and aromatic, fresh and green with a moderate bitterness, good on its own and useful in the region’s blends alongside Blanqueta and Villalonga. A regional Spaniard with its own personality.

Worth knowing

Like its Valencian neighbours, Changlot Real is more a local, named oil than an export star — which is exactly why a protected Valencian bottle is a good way to taste a Spain beyond the Andalusian giants.
