Dritta Olives

L’olive à huile des Abruzzes, autour de Loreto Aprutino — une huile fraîche, fruitée et équilibrée.

The Dritta is the characteristic olive of Abruzzo, in central Italy on the Adriatic side, grown above all around Loreto Aprutino and Pescara. It gives a fresh, fruity, well-balanced oil with almond, green-leaf and a clean moderate bitterness — the backbone of the Aprutino Pescarese DOP. A graceful, food-friendly oil from a region of strong cooking.

Abruzzo’s graceful oil

Abruzzo is mountainous, green and serious about its food, and the Dritta is its oil olive — the name (“straight”) describes the upright growth of the tree. The oil is medium-fruity, fresh and balanced, with almond and herb and a clean finish: assertive enough to be interesting, gentle enough to pair with almost anything. It anchors one of Italy’s older DOPs.

Worth knowing

Abruzzo oil offers good value for genuine quality, being far less hyped than Tuscany or Puglia. A named Dritta from the Aprutino hills is a reliable, food-friendly extra virgin — the kind of honest regional oil worth keeping on the counter.
