Tamar Valley business threatens class action over pulp mill

A Tamar Valley olive business has warned it will seek compensation or a class action if it is damaged by air pollution from Gunns’ proposed pulp mill.

Peter and Diane Henning from Lentara Olives say they have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and seven years establishing their high quality virgin olive oil business at Exeter, north of Launceston.

Mr Henning says they have told the Resource Planning and Development Commission if they were affected by the mill, they would be prepared to mount a class action with other local businesses.

“In the event that this pulp mill does go ahead and produces air pollution which interferes with the quality of the product which we are now starting to produce, or undermines the enterprise’s viability, then we should get compensation for that,” he said.
