Syria: The 5th Olives and Olive Oil International Exhibition Opens

The 5th Olives and Olive Oil International Exhibition ,Olivex 2006 was opened in Damascus yesterday. Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Hussein Haddar who opened the exhibition told reporters that the olive trees farming in Syria has remarkably developed and that has been accompanied by the increase of production.
Syria production of olive oil reached 205 thousand tons in 2006, the overall production of olives reached 1.1 million tons and the number of olive trees reached around 82 millions.
The exhibition which will last until 20th of current month includes 50 pavilions representing specializes local and foreign companies from Spain, Italy, France , Germany, Jordan and Iraq.
