The 4th International Olive Tree Fair, themed ‘Olive culture: a Spur for Agricultural Development’, opened Thursday in Marrakech, at the initiative of the Regional Olive-Growing Committee of Al-Haouz.

Organised in collaboration with the Regional Office of Agricultural Development of Al- Haouz (ORMVAH) and the International Olive-Growing Council, this fair is an opportunity for the professionals to join efforts for a better and total integration of all olive growing activities in the region, said MAP news agency.

On the agenda of this event, destined to contribute to the animation of the city of Marrakech, figures among others an exhibition of olive products.

Round-table conferences will also be organised on various themes, including ‘Olive culture in Morocco: the Current State and the Prospects of Development’; ‘the New Approaches for Financing Olive culture Sector’; ‘Species Improvement of Olive Products in Morocco’ and ‘Olive Oil: Local Production and Quality Signs’.

This event, highlights its initiators, comes within the framework of “a conjunction of circumstances marked by an upsurge in international demand, following last year’s decrease in Spanish olive production, and the boost given to Moroccan exporters of olive oil.”

According to an ORMVAH document related to the current agricultural year, the surplus of olive production in Morocco will reach 600,000 ha, compared to 590,000 ha in the previous year.
